FLYTRAP 1-YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Hello everyone! Much like everything else this year, I somehow managed to miss the 1-year anniversary of FLYTRAP! I'm not bitter about it. Really! It doesn't bother me at all! For sure!
Anyway, yesterday was this game's 1-year anniversary. And much like DaRoach, I've just been a little too busy to cook up the update for it yet. But, rest assured, I will hold true to my goal of trying to update every game I put on here at LEAST one time. And the planned FLYTRAP updates should be incredibly simple and quick to do, so I'm hoping to have some free time to crank it out soon. So please sit tight!
No updates to share on the game right this moment, but I will make a new post when the updated versions launch. I wanted to thank you all so much for the love this simple, spur of the moment game got. As I think it may be one of my most popular uploads so far? So I really appreciate that!
This game REALLY was just made spur of the moment, if you follow me on twitter you might remember me just asking if I should make it, being told yes, and then making it in a weekend. So I'm shocked people actually enjoyed it the way they did.
In fact the game was SO spur of the moment, all the concept art was whipped up incredibly quickly with a pen and a sheet of paper at a desk I was sitting at. I shared these on twitter but you can see early sketches for Marty and the Mean Flies here!
This was the tweet that kicked it all off (x), thank you all for telling me to make it lol. It was surprisingly easy, maybe the easiest project I've put together so far. You can see the screen on its own without any sprites, and the first replay actually shows a beta set up where the injured sprite is actually at the bottom instead of the middle. Neat.
There's really not a lot to share for this game since pretty much everything in it is all there is. But I did find one major unused asset while combing through the smile amount of files! Which is the original sprite for a Mean Fly that was just too big to fit on the screen.
Fascinating stuff!
This is a very simple game and honestly, one I would not mind showing a complete breakdown of how it's made and just posting all the assets in a future devlog. It's nothing fancy, but I'm pleased with it. If you'd like a look under the hood, let me know!
That's all for today, thank you all again for your continued support and please look forward to FLYTRAP updates, updates for what I made in 2023, and hopefully some new projects in 2024!!
